Merlin Macro Advent Calendar, Door 3: Excalibur, the Sword of...?
There are already drinking games out there featuring certain lines and/or words the dragon says. (In fact, if I followed some of them, a two-minute-scene in the dungeon would get me drunk beyond hope.)

Hell, even Merlin himself has picked up on it:

I can't say anything apart from...[info]ten_chan made me do it...she was raving about how cute the unicorn was and about Merlin's enchanted face...I just couldn't resist and took out the official BBC preview pic once more...

This is now officially "Door No. 1" of the Merlin Macro Advent Calendar. Each day I'll add a Merlin Macro - hopefully my muse will stick around until Christmas. And yeah, I am aware of the fact that I posted this on Nov 30. Enjoy anyway. :-)

Merlin Macro: Uther Pendragon Picture Story - The DS
The macro bug bit me some time ago (side effect of the US election), but I usually don't have much time to do anything about it. Today I watched the extras of the new Merlin DVD...and just couldn't help myself. There's a fucking Nintendo DS AND Nintendo Brain Training ad in this one "Behind the scenes"-clip and I love it to BITS!

I grinned like a maniac when the Director confirmed that YES, Uther Pendragon Tony Head does indeed own a PINK DS (which his son Arthur Bradley James borrows from him to play Brain Training)! All along I thought it was just the light playing tricks, but yeah, it's pink, James Hawes confirmed it! Shouted it all over the courtyard, in fact. :-D

Here's my take on Uther(!) and his little pink pal:

When my colleague MS came in this morning she pulled a cereal box out of her handbag and the plastic bag out of the box - it was empty. Everyone was like "LOL, she took an empty cereal box to work..." - but she hadn't.

Getting old...
This is fantastic... *grmbl*

First I had the cold...which went away pretty fast and I was like \o/...
Then came the stiff neck, stayed for a few days and is (almost) gone now.
And since this morning I'm having a stabbing pain in my back.

My weekend starts in 90 minutes! I must be healthy RIGHT NOW! *pokes pain to make it go away*

I'm getting old, it seems...but I'm really glad that there is a bathtub in my apartment...REALLY glad!

Cold, begone...
And here's the cold I had expected ever since I was running around in London on this freeeezing first day. Of course it had to jump me on the last weekend of my vacation. Gaaaah!
But I'm SO gonna go to work tomorrow, I HATE not being there on the first day of a new project. And I've stocked up on tea, sage bonbons, fennel honey and fresh fruit for the juicer, I'll make it through the day somehow.

London - the photos
Here are the photos of my trip. No Halloween pics, unfortunately, but I kinda forgot that I had a camera on me when there were hundreds of masked people running around in the streets (shame, I know). Everything you can see here was taken with the camera of my Nokia E90 and I'm really happy about the quality (the pics are even bigger in the original).

London Picspam --- London Picspam --- London Picspam )

I warmly recommend the New London Free Tour (yeah, FREE, but you will pay something in the end, otherwise you'll feel like a dick, 'cause the tour is great!) and Meininger Hostel in London. (I'd booked the 18 person dorm, but was upgraded and spent my vacation in a very comfy 6 person room, so I can't tell you what the big room is like - but the small one on the sixth floor was awesome and quiet!)

Last day in London
*sniff* My last day... Rain or sun, I just love this city so much...
Anyway, it will also be good to return home. And if it's only to keep the plants from dying... :-)

I think I'll take [info]nemogbr's advice and go to the great new mall at Shepherd's bush. But first there's Forbidden Planet and a couple of second hand bookshops to roam at Leceister Square.

Around 16:00 I'll head for the airport...

It was rather grey during the day, but not raining and not cold. Compared to yesterday the weather was actually rather pleasant.

After checking emails and news at the hostel I went to Victoria Station... )

Checkout time is 10 o'clock tomorrow morning, but I'll store my stuff at the hostel and roam the city one last time. I've still got 34 pounds or so that need to be eliminated... ;-)

Around 6 this morning two more guys arrived in my room, but they were quiet and went to bed quickly as well. Now I'm waiting for [info]cimrah who promised to come by here and pick me up. While we were talking on the phone I was sitting in a pile of boy scouts, felt like 500 of them were blocking the reception area, all about 7 years old, with blue caps, very cute.

Third Day in London, Part 2
I actually DID catch the free tour through the old part of London. The weather was (and still is) fantastic, sun, blue sky, only few clouds - and we had a great tour guide, Alex, a 'real' Londoner speaking the Queen's English. *happy sigh* Very funny guy, too, telling us stories from all the different events in the history of the city. I had a wonderful time.
That said I will never move my feet again... *ouch* :-D

With hurting back and feet I stumbled towards Trafalgar Square - and right over a shop selling all kinds of Dr. Who merchandise. And just after I'd congratulated myself on not going on a shopping spree... Of course I bought the freaking Tardis in there...couldn't leave the shop without...and a poster. I'm doomed.

Anyway, after that I found refuge in the tube station St. James's Park, where I ate a jacked potatoe with cheese, then returned to the hostel to drop my stuff. It's brilliant to have the hostel so close by, you can always go back during the day to store your belongings or just chill out and check emails, then be on the way again.
Which I will be now as well...

Second Day in London
Yesterday night [info]nemogbr and I went to Garfunkel's for dinner (Gloucester Rd.), then to see the movie "Ghost Town" in a cinema at Leceister Square. (The premiere of "Quantum of Solace" was on as well, but even if we'd made it there on time I wouldn't have been willing to pay 50 pounds to watch a movie.) It was a pretty funny film, the cinema was packed and everyone was in a good mood. Afterwards we had a drink at a pub around the corner, then I became very tired and he took me back.

This morning... )

And btw.: It's really cold here, but at least sunny.

Of course I've forgotten something at home: shower and hair gel, but if that's all I'll survive. ;-)

[info]cimrah, could you send me an SMS, so I know I've got the right number of your mobile phone? Or didn't you get my message earlier? Then please check your email, I sent you my mobile number again. Or contact me via the Meininger Hostel in Kensington, ok?

Hey, you guys at work - I got H's SMS just when I was landing in Stansted. Take care and don't work too hard. :-D

Frankfurt Book Fair 2008
My mum paid me a visit on Saturday. First we went out to the shopping center for a bit, then to the Book Fair (because she'd never been there). On the way there we were stuck in a train for 20 minutes until we were told this train wouldn't go anywhere due to technical failure and we'd have to take another one...so together with 5000 other people we shuffled over to the other side, upstairs, downstairs, zombie (or lemming) style.
As I had feared the halls of the Book Fair were packed at this time of day. (But what can you do, the interesting stuff only starts around midday.)
We pushed and shoved our way through millions of people...

Drowning in the masses... )

Edit: I put a few more photos into the Book Fair 2008 gallery...enjoy. :-D

What Your Taste in Art Says About You Test
(stolen from [info]mareen)

Your result for What Your Taste in Art Says About You Test...

Balanced, Secure, and Realistic.

16 Impressionist, 14 Islamic, 16 Ukiyo-e, -26 Cubist, -35 Abstract and 16 Renaissance!

Impressionism is a movement in French painting, sometimes called optical realism because of its almost scientific interest in the actual visual experience and effect of light and movement on appearance of objects. Impressionist paintings are balanced, use colored shadows, use pure color, broken brushstrokes, thick paint, and scenes from everyday life or nature.

People that like Impressionist paintings may not alway be what is deemed socially acceptable. They tend to move on their own path without always worrying that it may be offensive to others. They value friendships but because they also value honesty tend to have a few really good friends. They do not, however, like people that are rude and do not appreciate the ideas of others. They are secure enough in themselves that they can listen to the ideas of other people without it affecting their own final decisions. The world for them is not black and white but more in shades of grey and muted colors. They like things to be aestically pleasing, not stark and sharp. There are many ways to view things, and the impresssionist personality views the world from many different aspects. They enjoy life and try to keep a realistic viewpoint of things, but are not very open to new experiences. If they are content in their live they will be more than likely pleased to keep things just the way they are.

Presidential Debate III - fangirl entry
I'm currently watching the final debate between Obama and McCain.
At 0:36 h Obama talks about the allegations of the McCain camp concerning Ayers.

...

I was glad for not being an American when Bush was elected (and 4 years later, again). May I just say that I want to emigrate to the US once Obama is elected?

Oh, wait, I just heard: McCain: "Autism is on the rise." ~ uh, wut?

Ah, nevermind. Let's focus on Obama again. Can he not just become 'President of the World' while he's at it?? ;-)

Creepy pamphlet
When I checked my snail mail box just now I found a pamphlet of some vegan/vegetarian organisation. It describes the melting of the Arctic ice, how long it would take until it's completely gone and what mankind should do to prevent that and other threads to our planet.

Not really creepy so far, right?

There is, however, a bleach-blond Asian women on the first page who seems to call herself (and I quote) "Die Höchste Meisterin Ching Hai, weltbekannte Wohltäterin, Künstlerin und spirituelle Lehrerin" ("Supreme Master Ching Hai, world-famous philanthropist, artist and spiritual teacher").
"Supreme Master"? O-kay, sign of an immense self-confidence. But this rather laughable detail is not the only thing that may keep her from being successful with her - otherwise commendable - message in this country. Read what she says in the interview...

Yay, Reunification Day!
Phew, has it really been 18 years?
Good riddance.

I was twelve years old and remember that everyone said it was a big deal, because suddenly the country wasn't separated anymore. I understood that, but was wondering why people kept on talking about it days and days after the wall had came down.
Well, I guess I wasn't exceptionally interested in politics back then...

However, I loved the book "Ich schick dir Barnabas" ("I'll send you Barnabas"), a story about a boy living in a small town near the wall on the Eastern side who is forced to flee to the West with his parents and leave his best friend and their pet raven behind. His friend sends the raven out with a note tied to his leg and eventually he finds the boy, and from this moment on they stay in contact via letters Barnabas delivers to each side of the wall. Did anyone read this as a child? It's quite ancient, but I still love it.

Here's a video (which I stole from [info]mareen) featuring the opening of the Wall at Berlin Bornholmer Strasse that famous night in 1989.

Bully - Scholarship Edition
Sorry for spamming the flist so much today, but I've got to catch up on events of the week. Overtime is killing my social online life as well as the real one.
However, I still found time for some fun:

I'm proud to announce that, at the beginning of last week, I've enrolled at the infamous Bullworth Academy (Wii version).

Bully, also known as Canis Canem Edit, is a third person action-adventure video game released by Rockstar Vancouver for the PlayStation 2 on October 17, 2006 in the United States, and rereleased as Bully: Scholarship Edition on March 4, 2008 for the Xbox 360 and Wii.

The game takes place at Bullworth Academy, a fictional independent boarding school in the New England area of the United States. Jimmy ends up enrolled in the school when his newly married mother and fifth stepfather go on a year-long honeymoon cruise. The school is located in the also fictional town of Bullworth, which resembles Connecticut (this would also explain the high prevalence of 'Old money' and 'Nouveau Riche' influences). The school itself is a classical neo-gothic design and is similar to many other public schools and colleges in the United Kingdom. - taken from BullyWiki

So far I've... )

The more I play and learn about this game the more I love it... :-)

@ [info]cimrah: There is a better version of the Sarah Palin ABC interview behind the cut, and the Planned Parenthood Ad I told you about. I also added the SNL spoof speech of Hillary and Sarah which is quite funny. ;-)

@ [info]nemogbr: If you've got any decent sources telling you that McCain/Palin are a great choice for the 2008 presidency I'd be happy if you posted them. After everything I've seen and read about this particular team so far I still can't believe that they've got any support at all...
